Grandy Can't Complain

Photograph courtesy of photobucket.com

Grandy typically makes jokes about what goes on at her desk.

It's what I do to cope with the craziness. Who couldn't make fun of some of the silly things that come my way.

Remember my post, Things You'd Hear at My Desk? I really do have fun sometimes because it's just easier to make fun than it is to wig out.

I've really been doing well with my new "NO STRESS" mantra. I remind myself to be POSITIVE and PRODUCTIVE every morning, and it seems to help. I've been working "normal" hours, and have managed to really approach work in a positive light...for the most part.

Well, Grandy has fewer things to to be positive about, but will be working ever harder at her mantra. We have unfortunately been hit by the down-size bug. I have had to say good-bye to some very dear friends, and we didn't see it coming.

Why is it that it feels like such a loss even for the people that remain? There's an awkwardness in the office because no one seems to want to talk about it. These were good people, who were good at their jobs, and were it not for the difficult times would still be with us. They were our friends.

When the announcements came down about who it was (and they were not in the room) there were sincere tears. Not tears of relief in those that worried it would be them, but rather tears for the loss to the company, and of their friends. We truly were a tight knit group.

We are now left to absorb the work of the others, where we weren't sure how we could get our own work done before. But Grandy can't complain...because Grandy was spared.

Grandy has a job. It's now the job of 3 people...but it is a job, and a job she is good at. She will no longer take her job for granted. She may complain, and maybe just to you readers, but she will not do so with anyone who knows the full story. I did not understand, before Wednesday, the true magnitude of how her job was on the line.

To my friends, all of whom are wonderfully, beautiful, talented women, may you kick ass and take names at your next adventure very soon.

I love you!! And I'm sorry!!

Downsizing is the pits! I feel the pain of losing friends and the pain of increased workloads. I hope your company survives this economic crunch that we've found ourselves in. It's not going to be an easy ride.

I SO feel your pain...been going thru this at my job for the past TWO YEARS of so...the most recent lay off was my good friend who I have worked with the past 3 and a half years...I bawled like a baby when her manager told me. I said, "Please lay me off instead!" cuz I felt so incredibly guilty cuz I am a 2-income household and she is only a 1-income. It's definitely tough to go thru even being the one who still HAS her job!

One time I was let go because the decided I could afford it...they KEPT people that sucked at their jobs but I was fired because I was single and didn't have kids.

That STILL pisses me off.

It's happening alot in our time w/ mergers and stuff..then if Anheuser Busch gets bought..wow we'll see LOTS of jobs go away.

My thoughts go to your friends who lost their jobs. I hope they find new jobs that they love.

Grandy,

I'm sorry your office got hit. Some offices and other work places have more than their share of back biting and drama. It's especially sad to hear of a good, tight-knit group who really care about each other being torn apart by downsizing.

I'm glad to hear that you are able to avoid falling prey to stress.
Take care,
Tina

Aw, I'm so sorry, Grandy. My heart aches for you--but for those who had to leave, even more!

I had dropped by to let you know I gave you a little link love in my post - Freelance Writing: Sharing Our Hearts.

Now, I'm leaving with a heavy heart - for those you talk about in this post, and for you with all that added stress.

You're all in my thoughts and prayers!

Blessings,
Michele

So many companies are having to reduce the workforce and it sucks. We're anticipating the same thing at our company, probably sometime next month.
