Rejection

Everyone in the blogosphere, and in real life, has an image they try to portray. I've never really known what my image could or should be, I'm kind of all over the map and it's actually worked okay for me so far.

I find that when I try to "categorize" my blog, I can't. I don't really count as a humor blog because let's face it, I'm not really funny all the time. I'm not a news blog. My other site doesn't even exactly (actually not at all) count as a technology site, unless one is trying to laugh at the daily struggles of the technically challenged. Really people, I had NO IDEA that I could find something to blog about every day, as far as all things technology...and how I struggle with them. WOW!

Grandy has a bloggy buddy that had a Birthday yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN! I know, I'm a day late...but I was a day late on posting even my own birthday. Jen has 3 blogs.

She blogs at Red Head Ranting, in which she rants about the daily happenings in her world. Her EC card looks like this:

Her next blog is Ergodic Cogitation/ I'm too tired to remember exactly what that means, but it's another good place for her to air her daily witticisms. The card she uses for EC is this:

I believe her last blog speaks for itself in the title. Kids of Queers is a blog that has some funny stuff. I think they are still Jen's outtakes on life but sprinkled a little more with a definite focus. It's more of a chronicle of how she grew up the product of a gay father, and a straight mother. That card used to be this:

But then I hooked her up with some killer resources and now it looks like this:

Part of the fun of Entrecard is the exposure you get to other blogs and learn more about the blogosphere. To earn credits you drop your "cards" on people, and to buy exposure to your blog, you pay with those Entre-Credits that you earn by clicking. Well, each blogger has the opportunity to accept or reject an ad.

I have to say that my ad has only been rejected once, in the entire time I've been with EntreCard. That rejection came by way of a (are you ready for this?) convention blog. I don't mean any old convention either. I mean you must imagine the type of convention that requires you to have either pointy ears or speak in another language entirely. Really...the Girly Anti-Geek has been rejected by geeks. And the reason given? Not relevant.

Hey, I'll admit even I've declined a couple ads here and there. I won't post ads where the chick is hotter than me. Granted, there are a couple on the adgitize site, but at least he polices them regularly.

What I have not had to deal with is how society still views homosexuality even today. Why would I? I'm not gay. I have a couple gay friends and family members, and love them very much, but I have not had to face the adversity they do every day.

As you can imagine, Jen has had her last ad rejected quite regularly. The reason given? Not relevant. Really? Is that it? Because I'm afraid you might be judging that book by a cover and really missing out on something good. That is truly a loss.

In honor of Jen's birthday I am here to show her some bloggy lovin'. I'm also here to say that Grandy judges no one, as she has no room to talk. I was only a little irritated when I got rejected by the geek squad (but only until I remembered the William Shatner SNL classic moment) so I can only imagine how it felt to continuously be rejected.

Sometimes I hide in the fog of what's considered a "mixed bag" of life, but do envy those brave enough to take a stand on something and be strong in the face of adversity.

What about you, reader? Have you ever been rejected for no darn good reason? Please share.

Whether you are part of Entrecard or not, would you share the KOQ card on your site? I just did. :)

Happy Belated Birthday, Red!!

(I'm not an EC person - haven't figured all that out yet.)

But someone did delete me off their blog roll a while back and I never heard from her again, after I posted about being in the looney bin! ROFL

Maybe it was because most of her blog friends were artsy/decorator/collector types, but it struck me funny that she visited my blog regularly until I spoke frankly about my depression.

Oh well...my house will never look as good as those houses, anyway!

I love Entrecard. I have found a ton of great blogs by using Entrecard. A ton of great readers have found me, too.

Grandy you rock! This post actually brought a tear to my eyes. Happy tears as Michael Jackson would say, probably before all that nasty stuff that made him move to another country.

Thanks so much for being a totally cool chick even if the geeks don't think you are geeky enough for them.

I don't know how to categorize MY blogs either and would be hard pressed to 'define' any of them. That said ... they're each quite distinct from one another (at least in my humble opinion). I haven't figured out Entrecard and feel like I'm overly busy 'as is' ...

As for rejection, I've had my share throughout life ... and believe there are valuable lessons in all life experiences.
Hugs and blessings,

Deanna~ I've been deleted off a blog roll...and I've lost a follower. Not sure what to make of it, but it is difficult not to take it personally somehow.

Mom~ Well thank you for stopping by and letting us know! I'll have to come say HI as well. :)

Storyteller~ I don't know how you would classify your blog(s) either. Hmmmm.

LJ~ Well I'm a fan of all your sites. :)

Jen~ I wanted to comment to you all on your own. That's why I kept yours separate. You are very welcome, dear bloggy buddy. I'm very ok with not being geeky enough and not being in the "in" crowd (usually). Thanks for sharing your story...it's way better than mine. ;)

I would totally put her EC on my page (if I had EC), mostly because I am fascinated with gay people and their courage and strength to endure the adversity that they face in society (and I think the gays are faaaaabulous!).

Happy birthday to Jen!

Paloma~ You just rock that way too!! :)

What a great idea!! You know in the short time that I have been with EC I have had numerous placements rejected... still not even sure why!! LOL I will have to show some bloggy love to you fine folks :)

What a great post! I'm very happy to say that I'm not one of the ones who rejected Jen! Actually, when I signed back up on EC, she was one of the first folks who bought one (I was so cheap back then!).

I *do* reject some ads though. Mainly if I think they're of no use to my audience (of 8) or I don't support whatever the blog is about -- and I mean if it's something I actively don't agree with.

I do hate the "Not relevant" option though, I have to say :p

Stephanie~ Well thank you on the suggestion of Bloggy Love. :)

Venessa~ Yeah, "NOT RELEVANT" bites. How about, "I'm not buyin' what you're sellin'?" :)

That would be a MUCH better option! :)

I'm going to have to check out this Entrecard you speak of.

I don't understand the antipathy that exists for many against those that are gay. It boggles the mind.

I rarely if ever reject an ad any more. It would have to be pretty bad.

I am, however, pretty discriminant on my blog list, keeping it to blogs I check out every day because I don't want to miss anything. When I find my interest seriously fading, for whatever reason, I'll often edit my blog list. Not to be mean, but just to keep it to my favorites.

Given the tiny bit of traffic I get daily, I doubt most would even notice.

I've had MANY of my EC ad requests rejected and I don't really have much of anything controversial on my blogs. My most frequently rejected is one where my EC card is a stalk of celery with a big red circle/slash around it. I think people are afraid they will look like they hate celery. And listen, if they are too scared to look like they hate celery you can't expect them to be brave enough to put anything remotely gay-looking on their blog. LOL.

On the other hand, to look at it from their point of view... to people who are not blog-savvy it can be sometimes difficult to tell the difference between a "badge" and an ad. If you have a KOQ ad on your site could it look like a badge and if one's mom goes there to read the blog she might freak out thinking people will assume you're the kid of a gay person. *shrug* I have no idea, but it's one perspective.

The important point I'd like to make though is that we lose followers, get rejected, get our links deleted for so many reasons that have nothing to do with US. Like I said, I've gotten more flack over hating celery than anything else I've done. I lost two followers from my blog the day I made a post related to armpits. (Seriously.) I have deleted people off my blogroll for no other reason than I use it to show people the blogs I love enough to go look at almost daily and I can only and I can only read so many. It has nothing to do with how fabulous anyone is or isn't. I have removed some really wonderful blogs from my blogroll.

Anyway, just my little thoughts! :)

Stephanie~ I'm glad you said what you did because I need to update my list for sure. Some very good insight (and yes your readers would notice). ;)

Wendy~ Some excellent perspective indeed. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing!! :)
