Poison Plant

Photobucket

This plant can be so problematic.

Grandy has never been one to be able to readily point out where these plants differ (I really struggle with the whole identifying thing). My boys can tell me where I can find poison oak, and that's pretty much fine with me.

What I DO know is that if there is something that is going to make Grandy's skin itch, then Grandy will get it...times 10.

I received permission from a friend of mine, who has a son the same age as mine, to post a story about the silliness of her son. I love this kid, he's sweet and smart, but he recently did something I think all kids (and maybe some adults) could learn from.

Well, said son of hers just KNEW that he could not get a reaction to poison oak. Said son was so adamant that he could not get effected, he decided to prove it.

Yep! You guessed it! He took two handfuls of this lovely plant pictured above, and rubbed it allover his face.

Oh yes he did! This sweet boy now looks like he's been been beaten.

Perhaps he's learned his lesson?

If nothing else...perhaps he's taught others...not to do these silly things.

Hey, I could have written this! Only substitute "friend's son" for "nylonthread" and "decided to prove it" with "scratched a mosquito bite" and you've got my post from last Wednesday.

I can't identify the d@mn things either.

I'm itching already just reading this! I am SOOOOOOOOO allergic to poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac and all three thrive in my part of the world! I sure feel for this little fella and yes, I hope he has learned his lesson!

I remember doing this as a kid. Nothing happened. I'm sorry your friend's kid wasn't so lucky. He needs to take lots of oatmeal baths!

I am now going to go look up what poison ivy and poison oak look like. I was hiking the other day and I saw something I thought might be poison ivy. It makes me mad I have no idea what it looks like.

After today I will.

OMG are you talking about my nephew??? Cause that little turd just did the same friggin thing! He had to go to the hospital to visit his mom (she had just delivered a baby) covered in Calamine lotion. He was proving he was not allergic.

I wouldn't know what it was unless someone pointed it out.

Chris~ Kinesthetic indeed. Let's hope it "sank in".
